Journal #1 "Back to the Grind"
Finally! I never thought I would actually be excited to start school but then again, why not? It's senior year! It still hasn't really struck me yet that I am indeed, a Lindsay High School Senior; I felt like last year I was first walking onto the old campus, nervous and shy, as I and my freshmen classmates gathered into the gym for freshman orientation. That day is still really clear to me, I still remember my Link Crew Leaders, I remember everyone giving each other a massage in the gym, and witnessing Cheatwood rip up a $20 bill. It was like yesterday I was at a rally, sitting with the other freshmen, as we would listen to the whole school booing us. The booing at rallies and lunch was a little humiliating but we were freshmen and it was tradition, everyone goes through it. Well, not these days actually, freshmen are untouchable. Which is fine with me actually, it's fun to mess around with someone but it has to have a limit; pushing the limit becomes bullying and in which case is not acceptable. Anyways, my years at Lindsay High are soon coming to a close; with every day being a day closer to graduation, anything and everything I do at the school will be the last. This will be my last year to play football and golf, my last year to join clubs and have guitar class, my last year to witness any event to hit Lindsay such as Valley Championships, and definitely my last year to enjoy being a Cardinal. Man, does it feel good to say that. I am a Cardinal. Yeah we're Lindsay, not a big school or big town, especially because everybody knows each other; but for a small school, we sure can compete in anything we do. In sports we have been league champs and valley champs, in academics we have increased our CST's results, and as a school we have a bond with each other that is awesome to witness. I remember hearing when I was younger "oh stay away from Lindsay High, nothing but drug addicts, pregnant teens and gang members" or " Man, Lindsay High doesn't even value your education." I was a little scared to go to Lindsay High; but I can say all those rumors I heard about Lindsay High are completely thrown out, Lindsay High is a great safe environment and guess what, the facilitators actually care about your education! They want you to learn, they want you to graduate, they want you to pursue education after Lindsay High, and most of all, they want you to succeed. Everything a student may need to pursue education (classes, scholarships, support), it all just adds if the student wants to go to college. I know what I want to do and pursue and it does in fact involve a college education, going to college has always been my ultimate goal in school though. All through the years of growing up, I witnessed family members decline the opportunity to have a college education and although they are living a content life, I can say that they could be living a bit better. I don't want to have to worry if I'll have enough money to pay bills, I want to be able to support the family I plan on having with no worries of debt or budget cuts; I also want to set an example for my younger brother and hope that one day when he comes to the position I am, he will continue onto college as well and acquiring a career that he will be happy in doing. With these goals set, I believe I am currently on pace in achieving my goals; I know for a fact I will graduate, but I made sure I wouldn't "take it easy" this year. I set myself up with classes I believed would keep me occupied this year, as well as some challenging ones. This year for my senior schedule I have (in order from periods), Fitness Training, Economics/AP Government, AP English Literature, Advanced Guitar, Physics, Trigonometry/Math Analysis, and Psychology. I love this schedule I choose these classes to not only receive a challenge; but, to also have fun and enjoy learning. Senior year is always packed with things to do like the Senior Projects, Senior Pictures, Senior Sunrise and Sunset; put that together with clubs, sports, classes and it can get a little stressful. Trust me, last year I witnessed some senior friends, including my girlfriend, get a little stressed and constantly busy once second semester hit. Senior year will get a little bit stressful, but it's what I make of it. I can either get stressed and not have fun or get stressed but manage to have a successful and memorable senior year. As a message to this year, I say "BRING IT ON."
